Veterans Day

U.S. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed Armistice Day for November 11, 1919. In proclaiming the holiday, he said
"To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations." ("The History of Veterans Day". United States Army Center of Military History. 3 August 2009)
In 1954, Congress made the change to Veterans Day, the official federal holiday to honor armed service veterans.

On this day, I hope you will take the time to reflect upon the sacrifices of the men and women of our country's military because if not for them, we would not live in the greatest country in the world or enjoy the freedoms we so take for granted.  I especially want to remember and thank my dad and uncles and father-in-law who fought in WWII. If not for them, our lives would be so totally different. They are the Greatest Generation.

In my family, thank you for your service, Royce, Terence, Troy, and my wonderful husband, Garry. And to my dear friend, Randy, who is about to be deployed, thank you for everything you do!

As we near Thanksgiving, I would like to ask that you consider making a donation to support WWII veterans through Honor Flight Fort Worth. You can do this online at www.honorflightfortworth.org or mail your donation to HFFW, PO Box 24191, Fort Worth, TX 76124. We are a 501(c)3 public charity and all donations are tax-deductible.
